The hardest substance in your body, and your tooth's outer shield. When decay or a crack breaks through it, everything underneath becomes vulnerable.

Softer than enamel and threaded with microscopic tubules that lead inward. Once decay reaches here, it travels faster, and teeth often start feeling sensitive.

The soft tissue at the heart of the tooth, holding nerves and blood vessels. When bacteria reach the pulp, it becomes inflamed or infected, and that is when the pain usually begins.

Narrow channels running down each root, carrying that same tissue. Root canal therapy is the careful cleaning, shaping, and sealing of exactly these spaces.

Where the canals open into the jawbone. Untreated infection escapes here, which is how a tooth problem becomes a bone problem, and why waiting rarely pays off.

A cavity or crack lets bacteria past the enamel. At this stage there may be no pain at all, which is exactly why routine exams and X-rays matter so much.

Bacteria reach the living pulp and inflammation sets in. This is often when people notice lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, or a persistent ache.

Left alone, infection travels down the canals and out the root tip into the surrounding bone. Swelling, severe pain, and risk to the tooth itself can follow.

Root canal therapy removes the infected tissue, disinfects and seals the canals, and the tooth is restored. The pain resolves and your natural tooth stays where it belongs.

The tooth is completely numbed first, so the treatment itself is comfortable. In fact, root canal therapy is what relieves the pain that brought you in. Mild tenderness for a few days afterward is normal and usually easy to manage.

Nothing replaces a natural tooth quite like the original. Keeping it preserves your bite, supports the jawbone, and keeps neighboring teeth from shifting. Extraction also usually leads to further treatment later, such as an implant or bridge.

Many root canals are completed in one or two appointments, depending on which tooth is involved and how much infection is present. You will get a clear plan and timeline at your diagnosis visit.

Often, yes, especially for back teeth that handle heavy chewing forces. A crown protects the treated tooth from fracture and restores full function. We handle that restoration in-house, so your care stays with one team.
